The merger has begun, so has the competition. Next week on “Grey’s Anatomy“, the residents of Seattle Grace and Mercy West vie for surgeries and their careers as day one of the hospital merger begins. The preview released for the episode reveals that the Chief will finally deliberate who will be let go from the hospital.

Meanwhile, Arizona stands by an enraged Callie when her father, Mr. Torres, employs a priest to help convince her to date men. Izzie experiences the brunt of her new surgical competition. “Invasion” is set to air on Thursday, October 15.

The team from Mercy includes Dr. Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams), Dr. Reed Adamson (Nora Zehetner), Dr. Charles Percy (Robert Baker) and Dr. April Kepner (Sarah Drew). According to the respective depicters, Jackson will have a spat with Cristina while Reed is involved in a best surgeries competition with Izzie, Alex and Cristina. Charles is having problem with Izzie while April is undermining Lexie.

Below are three sneak previews from tomorrow’s all-new episode of Grey’s Anatomy, “Tainted Obligation.” Alex receives a wake up call from a bear. A real bear, not Yang’s Mr. Bear.

He decides after this incident that trailer life is not for him and he wants to move back to Mer’s. Izzie’s not up for that move, however, as she’s trying to move forward, not back …

In the preview for “Grey’s Anatomy” October 8 episode, a flash back to Meredith’s dark past is given. When Meredith and Lexie’s father, Thatcher, returns to the hospital with a failed liver, it’s up to Meredith to save his life because she is the one who has his blood.

Meanwhile, Izzie empathizes with a patient riddled with tumors, as Mark, annoyed with Cristina’s competitive zeal, tricks her into assisting on an unusual surgery. Jeff Perry returns to his role as Thatcher Grey in the episode called “Tainted Obligation“.

Meanwhile, the merger is still creating quite a stress for the staff of Seattle Grace Hospital. Recently it was confirmed that at least four staff from Mercy West Hospital are coming to work with them. The new characters are played by Robert Baker, Jesse Williams, Nora Zehetner and Sarah Drew.

I won’t be surprised if a lot of people would be unavailable on the night of September 24. That’s the day Grey’s Anatomy returns, and judging from the first season 6 promo, it promises to be a tearful, but ultimately satisfying, affair.

ABC has just released the first trailer for the upcoming season of the ABC medical drama, and things look promising. By now, you need to be living under the rock to not know that George (TR Knight) dies and is therefore won’t be coming back to Seattle Grace, while Izzie (Katherine Heigl) survives the disease no one survives (her words, not mine).

That being said, even as we know these things, I’m sure people will still be tuning in to see just how Grey’s Anatomy will do it. After all, if the season 5 finale were any indication, Grey’s Anatomy fans will be in for a real gut-wrenching, tear-jerker of a two-hour premiere on September 24.

About this promo, there really isn’t that much except Callie (Sara Ramirez), who can be seen painfully bawling her eyes out. It doesn’t take a genius to guess who she is probably crying for. She and Izzie haven’t exactly turned out best friends after the whole George-marrying-Callie-George-cheating-with-Izzie thing.

We also got a glimpse of Cristina, but good luck trying to find traces of emotion in that face.

Of course, foremost on the Grey’s Anatomy season 6 spoilers agenda is George (T.R. Knight) not making it and Izzie (Katherine Heigl) spending 17 hours on her first day on the set. We also know that Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) might be a little scarce this season in view of her pregnancy, but creator Shonda Rhimes has previously said that she already has a “lovely story” concocted especially for this little incident.

Now that that’s out of the way, we can focus on other Grey’s Anatomy season 6 spoilers en route to its September 24 kick-off, including something that may dictate the very future of the ABC medical drama. Read after the jump to find out!

Starting off the premiere, TV Guide has reported that the September 24 season 6 premiere will not be a flash-forward like Desperate Housewives, but will continue from where we left off, that is, Izzie flat-lining and George just successfully telling Mer that, well, he’s George. Apparently, all the events will weight “very heavily” on the doctors of Seattle Grace, especially one “whose reaction you may taken for granted.” Judging from the finale, it’s Bailey (Chandra Wilson) who was most visibly rattled by the harsh sequence of events. What did she say again, tearfully - “We’re all scared!” to the chief.

Elsewhere, Shonda had indeed confirmed that Mer will be on maternity leave. And despite being “optimistic” that she’ll be back quick, the Grey’s Anatomy creator said she has a “lovely story” to take the ABC medical drama into her maternity leave, including some stand-alone episodes.

It’s here when Rhimes revealed that she’s ready for everyone to go, sort of, so she’s trying to “mess with the structure” in order to still function without some of the characters. “What would we do without Ellen? What would we do if we had an episode without Patrick Dempsey?” she said, for instance.

In relation to that, E! Online reported that Seattle Grace will say hey to at least three interns. According to descriptions, this will include “a bleeding-heart caregiver, an exacting perfectionist and a scheming underminer.” I don’t know about you, but that sounds awfully like some of our original interns, most notably the “exactly perfectionist” part. I wonder if this is already a sort of passing-the-baton kind of thing.

Picture the doctors of Grey’s Anatomy. Replace their scrubs with an astronaut helmet; the operating room with a space station; and - presto! - you’ve got Defying Gravity!

The series revolves around eight astronauts, from five countries, that go on a mysterious six-year mission. The 13-episode adventure - which began filming in January in Vancouver - was pitched to ABC as “Grey’s Anatomy in space.”

And it worked: the network has picked up the show and will likely air it this summer. “Since we originally pitched [Defying Gravity] to the international marketplace as Grey’s Anatomy in space, getting the series on the network that has Grey’s and makes the most successful sci-fi show on TV in Lost is a good fit,” said David Madden, the executive VP of Canadian network FtvS. Ron Livingston (pictured) will headline Defying Gravity, along with Laura Harris, Christina Cox, Malik Yoba and Florentine Lahme.

Season 6 of Grey’s Anatomy will premiere on Thursday September 24th at 9/8c on ABC!
