Kim Raver is headed to Grey’s Anatomy to break up Owen and Cristina! I kid. I think. I was just trying to get all you O&C ’shippers stirred up and, in turn, drive eyeballs to my interview with the actress. Speaking of which… In the following Q&A, Raver teases her Grey’s stint (kicking off Nov. 12), addresses reports that producers wanted her to dye, and solves a big 24 biggest mystery: Are Jack and Audrey soul mates?
When did you start work?
KIM RAVER: I’m on my second day. It’s an amazing group.
Tell me about your character, Teddy.
RAVER: She was in Iraq with Owen. She’s a cardiac surgeon. She’s really good at what she does. There’ll be some interesting stuff between Teddy, Cristina and Owen.
What exactly happened between Teddy and Owen in Iraq?
RAVER: When we first meet her, we’re not quite sure. But there’s definitely a hint of a triangle.

The big reveal of the episode last week on Grey’s Anatomy was that Izzie was fired (by way of a script, no less, from a bitchy HR person who bossed the chief of surgery around). We all know prior that she did ask for something like a five-week break from Grey’s for a movie and new baby Naleigh so sooner or later, her character Izzie Stevens would somehow take some time off herself.
How did Shonda and the other Grey’s people execute this little timeout? They made Izzie kill (sort of) a patient awaiting kidney transplant partly because of the pressure of Mercy West competition and partly because she was still reeling from some harsh things, namely George’s death and cancer. The question that begs asking now is this: how will they get Izzie to go back now? A corollary would be: where did she go and what did Alex do to deserve a little note telling him she left?
Justin Chambers, as Karev, did an amazing job reporting the bad news to Mer and Cristina (to hug or not to hug). And it’s true that the chief did mention that Karev was one of the people who questioned Izzie’s stamina in terms of her work. That being said, however, is there a possible way to get Izzie Stevens back to the program of Seattle Grace without sacrificing authenticity? Sure, they can snap and say “Recession over!” and hire back the people they fired, but will Grey’s Anatomy fans just as easily bite into that quickie plot fix as they did (or didn’t) her cancer-justifying-Denny-ghost-sex storyline?
One thing’s for sure. Izzie’s character has become the hotbed of insanity on Grey’s Anatomy. She was introduced as the perky, optimistic side to contrast with the dark and gloomy Meredith and Cristina. With all the harsh things that happened to her, she has grown less perky over the seasons - although she did show that naïve side, trusting one of the Mercy West newbies with the key code - and last week she reached a breaking point. Without so much as a hey, she left Karev a note saying that she’s gone, no frills and whatever’s, she’s just gone.
Or will Izzie be back at all?

With the death of George O’Malley (T.R. Knight) greeting ‘Grey’s Anatomy‘ fans at the beginning of this season, Seattle Grace has experienced a void … or should we say vacancy? According to the Hollywood Reporter, Kim Raver will be stepping into the job opening left by Knight’s departure, starting with episode 9. And the plot thickens — Michael Ausiello reports that Raver will be playing a surgeon and possible new love interest for Dr. Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd).
Joining ‘Grey’s’ is clearly a coup for Raver, whose prior credits include ‘24′ and ‘Third Watch.’ She was last seen alongside Brooke Shields in NBC’s ‘Lipstick Jungle,’ which was canceled after 20 episodes, yet had a surprisingly vocal cult following.
The addition of a known actor like Raver could be an effort to bolster the show’s audience, which has shrunk over the last few seasons. After peaking in season 3 with an average of 21.3 million viewers, ratings for ‘Grey’s’ have tapered off and now hover in the 13 to 15 million range (typically depending on who is about to die on the show).
It’s likely, however, that Raver won’t have that much screen time with two of the show’s biggest leading ladies, as this move is probably also meant to counter the fact that Ellen Pompeo will be out on maternity leave this season and Katherine Heigl will be on hiatus shooting ‘Life as We Know It,’ opposite ‘Mad Men’’s Christina Hendricks. With those two literally out of the picture, Raver’s task will be to continue the show’s tradition of strong female leads … or to make up for the fact that the name “Izzie” has become synonymous with eye-rolling and yelling (both on her part and ours).
The Raver casting also comes on the heels of the news that ‘Greek’’s Jesse Williams and veteran actress Martha Plimpton will join the cast for multi-episode arcs. Is ‘Grey’s’ having a resurgence, or are these just preventive measures to try and keep more viewers from being tempted by ‘CSI’ over on CBS? Given the intriguing Owen-Cristina love triangle storyline, Raver’s surgeon could serve as an antidote for a show that might be suffering from a bit of character fatigue.
What do you think? Is ‘Grey’s’ hitting its stride again? Will Raver’s addition make up for the absences of Pompeo and Heigl? Or is ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ a lost cause?

October 15 is the day the Seattle Grace and Mercy West hospital staffs merge in a tense episode titled “Invasion.” Word is Izzie and Lexie’s heads are on the chopping block.
Dr. Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams) “He’s a very confident, competitive, fearless leader and a bit of a cocky, hotshot surgeon,” says Jesse. “He’s cracking jokes left and right and going in there and taking no prisoners. So far, I’ve had a spat with Cristina and shared scenes with Owen, Lexie and Derek.”

Dr. Reed Adamson (Nora Zehetner) “She’s very feisty and comes on a bit strong at first,” says Nora, a longtime friend of Chyler Leigh (Lexie). “But she’s a good doctor who cares a lot about the patients, especially with the merger getting in the way of that. Everyone is in competition and worried about getting fired, so there’s a lot of fighting with Izzie, Alex and Cristina for the best surgeries.” As for a romance with Alex, Nora will only say, “Perhaps.”
Dr. Charles Percy (Robert Baker) “He’s a general surgeon who has a problem keeping his mouth shut,” says Robert, who has shot scenes with Bailey, Alex and Derek. “In my first episode, some complications arise between Charles and Izzie, causing some head-butting. And then some things happen that the fans will definitely want to see.” Hmmm…could these characters be sharing more than scalpels? “Izzie’s a married woman, but never say never.”
Dr. April Kepner (Sarah Drew) “April’s supereager, a little insecure, passive-aggressive and tries to undermine Lexie,” says Sarah, who has “really enjoyed playing a bitch.” But April also has a sensitive side. “You’ll see her writing some surprising things in her journal.”
